Name, image, likeness for student-athletes

Name - Image - Likeness

You may wonder how your name, image, and likeness (NIL) can be protected or help you build a personal brand as a student-athlete and beyond. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) hosts a series of NIL events to share the importance of protecting intellectual property (IP) and registering trademarks.

These events are offered in person and online. We welcome all current athletes from Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities, high school athletes and their parents/guardians, law school students, and attorneys interested in NIL.

For additional information and resources, visit our website to get an introduction to name, image, and likeness and learn about trademark basics and whether you may need a U.S.-licensed attorney. We can also help you identify what kind of IP you may have and tell you about how to protect it.
