| 1. A handheld electronic device, comprising:
a housing having a planar surface with a periphery;
a ground plane element mounted to the housing that has portions that define a slot;
a conductive bezel that surrounds the periphery of the planar surface of the housing, that surrounds the slot in the ground
plane element, and that is electrically connected to the ground plane element; and
at least one antenna formed from the ground plane element and the slot.
