| 1. A method of optimizing use of a high-rate packet data (HRPD) resource in a communication network having a circuit-switched
(CS) channel and a packet-switched data (PSD) channel, comprising:
assigning the HRPD resource to a first mobile station that is coupled to a radio access network of the communication network,
wherein the HRPD resource is used to establish a first HRPD session between the first mobile station and the radio access
network, and wherein the first mobile station is not using the PSD channel;
a second mobile station wirelessly coupling to;
reassigning the HRPD resource to the second mobile station without notifying the first mobile station, wherein the HRPD resource
is used to establish a second HRPD session between the second mobile station and the radio access network; and
simultaneously maintaining the first HRPD session and the second HRPD session using the HRPD resource while the first mobile
station is not using the PSD channel.
