| 1. A method for controlling an exhaust flow rate of an exhaust hood, comprising:
generating a signal responsive to transient movement of ambient air at a location adjacent and outside of an exhaust hood
recess, the signal including an indication of a peak velocity value over a sliding, predefined interval of velocity of air,
the maximum value being reset periodically; and
controlling an exhaust flow rate of said exhaust hood responsively to the signal.
