1. A method for increasing the platelet counts of a patient with decreased platelet counts comprising administering an effective amount of a modified polypeptide having an amino acid sequence wherein the first amino acid, threonine is replaced by alanine, the third amino acid, leucine is replaced by threonine, the fourth amino acid, glycine is replaced by tyrosine, the fifth amino acid, proline is replaced by arginine and the seventeenth amino acid, cysteine is replaced by serine, respectively in SEQ ID NO: 1, wherein at least one group of the amino, carboxyl, mercapto or guanidino group in the molecule of a polypeptide is chemically modified with a polyalkylene glycol derivative or a stylene-maleic acid copolymer.
