| 1. An optical fiber communications network transceiver, comprising:
a transmitter having a characteristic that is adjusted by a control signal;
a module operatively coupled to the transmitter and arranged to analyze data to generate one or more error signals responsive
to errors in the data, the module being configured to receive the data on parallel data lines at a first data rate and to
send the data to the transmitter on a single serial line at a second data rate that is greater than the first data rate; and
a media access controller operatively coupled to the module and responsive to the one or more error signals arranged to generate
the control signal to adjust the characteristic of the transmitter,
wherein the data flows from media access controller to the module to the transmitter before being transmitted, and
wherein the module comprises a first clock and data recovery circuit used in the data flows from the media access controller
to the module to the transmitter.
