1. A packaged pharmaceutical composition comprising a presterilized bag containing an aqueous solution of pyridoxylated and polymerized mammalian hemoglobin, where the polymerized hemoglobin has, based on the weight of total hemoglobin in the solution, a molecular weight distribution of:
about 10 to 24% of hemoglobin polymers with a molecular weight of about 128 kd,
about 18 to 30% of hemoglobin polymers with a molecular weight of about 192 kd, and
about 45 to 70% of hemoglobin polymers with a molecular weight of about 256 kd.
