| 1. A method comprising:
at a time corresponding to patient rest and in the absence of sleep apnea, delivering a maintenance therapy that aims to prevent
sleep apnea, the maintenance therapy comprising cardiac overdrive pacing at a first overdrive rate in excess of a cardiac
base rate, a cardiac paced rate or a cardiac intrinsic rate, where the overdrive pacing rate corresponds to an interval between
atrial or ventricular pacing pulses;
sensing information during delivery of the maintenance therapy;
based at least in part on the information, determining if apnea comes into existence during delivery of the maintenance therapy;
and
if apnea comes into existence, stopping delivery of the maintenance therapy and delivering a termination therapy comprising
overdrive pacing at a second overdrive rate in excess of the first overdrive rate.
