| 1. An image forming system comprising:
means for creating a density profile associated with an image;
means for predicting a highest expected temperature associated with a printhead using the density profile prior to printing
the image;
means for delaying printing the image prior to beginning the printing of the image in response to the highest expected temperature
exceeding a threshold;
means for monitoring an actual temperature of the printhead in response to printing the image; and
means for detecting a malfunction of the printhead in response to the actual temperature differing from the highest expected
temperature by a predetermined amount.
