A device for assigning at least two knock sensors to at least two cylinders of an internal combustion engine, the internal combustion engine having a working cycle in which an individual characteristic acoustic signal is generated for each cylinder, the knock sensors being configured to analyze the acoustic signals, the device comprising:
means for assigning the knock sensors to the cylinders by comparing at least two of the characteristic acoustic signals.
